Think Big, Shop Small

During this trying time and with changes in social distancing and stay at home orders, the weight of the struggle has been great on small businesses.

Local and small business are the bedrock of our communities; together let’s rally to support these businesses during this troubling time. One very important thing you can do for small businesses is to understand the hard decisions these small business owners have to make at this time. Hard decisions can include having to close, reducing open hours, or laying off employees that are more like family.

Let’s take the time to help small businesses get back on their feet and even grow.

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS NOW?!

  • STAY LOOPED IN:

    • Follow your favorite small business’s social media feeds (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn), websites, blogs, emailed newsletters and more to see if they are offering other ways to connect or offering deals/sales during this time
  • SUPPORT WITH PURCHASES:

    • Consider small business purchases before the “big” store/brands/company purchases
    • Order take out and/or delivery!
    • Shop small online as many local businesses are now offering online options
    • Buy gift cards now from the place you shop regularly to be used later
    • Call in your orders!
    • Shop virtually or by appointment – many small businesses are getting creative with shopping options such as shopping via FaceTime or by sending pictures
    • Many small businesses are offering new no-contact delivery options or curbside pick-up options
  • BUY IN ADVANCE:

    • Pre-paying now for future purchases
    • Purchase gift cards
    • Schedule appointments and book services from local business for future dates
  • AMPLIFY YOUR SUPPORT:

    • The cost of supporting a small business by following, liking, sharing, or commenting on their social media is $0.00, yet it can make all the difference
    • Give your favorite small business’s a kind review, a shout-out on social media, or cheer them on through word-of-mouth
    • Check in with your family and friends that are small business owners and employees to offer personal support and encouragement. Remind them that they are not alone and that we can all work through this together
  • EXPRESS UNDERSTANDING:

    • This time is difficult for all and the weight is especially heavy on small business owners and employees as they see their passion struggle. Please help by understanding and respecting the hard decisions!
    • If your circumstances allow, consider donating to a local non-profit to assist during difficult time
    • Respect the changes business have made such as requiring masks, limiting the number of people in a room/building, strict cleaning procedures, and longer wait times/appointment times
  • IF SICK, STAY HOME:

    • Safety is of the utmost importance!
    • Reduce risk and keep yourself and others as safe as possible
